Formula Information

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation is a unique blend of Camphor 1%, Clotrimazole 2%, Menthol 2%, and Salicylic Acid 0.2% in a topical liquid form. It is specifically designed for direct application to the skin or mucosal surfaces, providing targeted therapeutic benefits. This formulation is often chosen for localized treatment or when avoiding systemic effects is desired.

Camphor and Menthol are topical analgesics that work by causing the skin to feel cool and then warm. These feelings on the skin distract you from feeling the aches/pains deeper in your muscles, joints, and tendons. Salicylic Acid helps to soften and shed the top layer of skin cells. It can also help reduce swelling and redness, and relieve itching caused by psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungus, thereby treating the infection. It is commonly used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections.

This formulation is applied directly to the affected area, usually 2 to 3 times daily or as directed by your doctor. The dosage and length of treatment depend on the type of infection being treated. Do not apply this more often than prescribed. Your condition will not clear faster, but side effects may be increased.

Before using this medication, clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin layer of the medication to and around the affected area and gently rub in. Do not cover, bandage or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor. After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands.

It is important to continue using this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop using this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped.

Drug Interactions

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation contains Camphor, Clotrimazole, Menthol, and Salicylic Acid, each of which has its own potential drug interactions. It's important to note that this is a topical preparation, so systemic absorption and subsequent interactions are less likely but still possible.

Camphor, when used topically, has minimal systemic absorption and thus, the potential for drug interactions is low. However, it should be used with caution in patients taking other medications that can cause CNS depression due to its potential to cause seizures at high doses.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication. While it is generally safe and has minimal systemic absorption when used topically, it can theoretically interact with certain other medications. For instance, it may enhance the effects of warfarin, an anticoagulant, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. It may also interact with sulfonylureas (a type of diabetes medication), potentially leading to hypoglycemia.

Menthol, like camphor, has minimal systemic absorption when used topically and thus has a low potential for drug interactions. However, it can cause skin irritation, particularly when used with other topical medications. It's also worth noting that menthol can enhance the skin absorption of other topical drugs, potentially increasing their effects and side effects.

Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic agent. When used topically, it can increase the absorption of other topical medications, potentially leading to increased effects and side effects. It may also interact with other drugs that affect blood clotting (like aspirin, warfarin, and other anticoagulants), potentially increasing the risk of bleeding.

This formulation is designed to treat a variety of skin conditions. Camphor and menthol provide a cooling effect and help to relieve itching and irritation. Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent, effective against a variety of fungal skin infections. Salicylic acid helps to break down thick, scaly skin, making it useful in conditions like psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.

As always, it's important to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you're currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products. If you have any questions about potential drug interactions or the appropriate use of this formulation, don't hesitate to reach out to us.

How Does it Work

A small arrow pointing down

This formulation is a combination of four active ingredients: Camphor, Clotrimazole, Menthol, and Salicylic Acid, each with its unique therapeutic properties. It is designed to be applied topically, directly to the skin or mucosal surfaces, to provide localized treatment and minimize systemic effects.

Camphor, a terpenoid, works by stimulating nerve endings sensitive to heat and cold, thereby producing a cooling effect when applied to the skin. This helps to relieve pain and reduce itching. It also has mild antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungus by interfering with the production of the fungal cell membrane. This effectively treats and prevents fungal infections on the skin.

Menthol provides a cooling sensation to the skin, helping to relieve minor pain and irritation. It does this by selectively activating the k-opioid receptors in the skin, which are responsible for the sensation of coolness. This can help to soothe inflamed or irritated skin conditions.

Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent). It works by causing the cells of the epidermis to shed more readily, opening clogged pores and neutralizing bacteria within. It can also prevent pores from clogging up again by constricting pore diameter, and allowing room for new cell growth. Due to its effect on skin cells, salicylic acid is used to treat skin diseases that involve scaling or overgrowth of skin cells such as psoriasis.

Together, these ingredients provide a multi-faceted approach to treating various skin conditions. The antifungal properties of Clotrimazole, combined with the antibacterial and antipruritic effects of Camphor, can effectively treat fungal infections and associated symptoms. The cooling effects of Menthol can provide symptomatic relief for irritation and inflammation, while Salicylic Acid aids in the shedding of dead skin cells and unclogging of pores.

This formulation is designed to be applied directly to the affected area, providing targeted treatment and minimizing the risk of systemic side effects. It is a versatile treatment option that can be used to manage a variety of skin conditions, offering both therapeutic and symptomatic relief.

The Camphor 1%/Clotrimazole 2%/Menthol 2%/Salicylic Acid 0.2% Topical Liquid formulation could serve other potential therapeutic uses beyond its primary indications. It could be used as an adjunctive therapy for a variety of dermatological conditions.

The clotrimazole component, as a topical antifungal, might be useful for addressing various fungal skin infections. It could also be utilized in the management of conditions like ringworm, athlete's foot or tinea pedis, and jock itch or tinea cruris. Additionally, salicylic acid, with its keratolytic properties, could aid in treating common skin issues like warts, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis.

Camphor and menthol, both of which have analgesic and cooling properties, could be useful in the management of minor skin irritation, local discomfort, and itching. These ingredients might also offer symptomatic relief in conditions like sunburn, minor burns, insect bites, and minor cuts or abrasions.

Despite the alternative uses mentioned, it's important to note that each patient's response to the formulation can vary widely. Therefore, customized treatment planning is crucial.
